  Working Groups  
 

Working group 2 is responsible for site characterization, developing a sampling design and collecting spatial and geographic data for the Benchmark sites. The team mainly comprises soil scientists, GIS scientists, remote sensing scientists, geographers, land use scientists, statisticians, data managers and landscape ecologists. This working group is coordinated by Dr. Jeroen Huising who is the Global Conver and is assisted by Dr. Peter Okoth, the Project Information Manager. Representation in the working group varies from country to country with Brazil having 14 participants, Cote d'ivoire 5, Indonesia 8, Kenya 2, Mexico 8 and Uganda 2. Tentative technical advisors to this group include: Dr. Simon Cook, Dr. Richard Coe, Dr. Meine van Noordwijk, Professor Ken Giller, and Professor Alfred Stein. Ms. Simoneta Negrete Yankelevich is assisting the project develop a land use intensity index to be used across the countries to relate to below-ground biodiversity.
